Roland Spottiswoode Portrait   Roland Spottiswoode Profile

Born in Belfast and brought up in County Down, Roland was a graduate of Chelsea School of Art. As Roland Carter he has worked in London in art education and in film production, specialising in graphics and special effects. His (at the time) unique fine art approach was influential in the overall design of films such as Pink Floyd’s The Wall and The Snowman on both of which he oversaw production. He ran his own film company Commanding Images until 1995 when he returned to full-time painting. In his work, he is particularly interested in questions of memory and self-narration exploring their implication in the construction of identity, particularly through his employment of evocative and provocative elements of contemporary and historical material culture. He has exhibited regularly since 2000 and his work is represented in art collections in Ireland, England, Australia and the USA. He lives and works in County Antrim.
