Book launch, Lost Knowledge of the Imagination

Talk and Party – Gary Lachman & Floris Books

The talk is sold out, but keen enthusiasts  are welcome to come by the party between 830 and 9.30 pm. No RSVP  needed for the later arrivals, do just come by.
People engaged in esoteric pursuits, the occult and witchcraft are deeply imaginative; more often that not, this is held against them as a form of escapism. In his new book for Floris Press, Gary Lachman explores the essence of imagination, and argues that, far from it being about ‘make believe’, imagination is an essential way in which we engage with reality. We can even say it is our means of bringing it into being. As a writer on historical occult figures and movements, Lachman knows whereof he speaks. Through examining the work of Kathleen Raine, Henry Corbin, Owen Barfield and other central figures in the history of imagination, Lachman introduces us to a canon of ideas that runs counter to reductionist thinking. Lost Knowledge of the Imagination opens on to a world we didn’t know we lived in.
Come, and bring your imagination.  Join us for a wonderful party with half-hour talk by the author, followed by more drinks and book-signing.
Gary Lachman is the author of twenty books on the links between consciousness, culture, and the western inner tradition, most recently The Lost Knowledge of the ImaginationBeyond the Robot: The Life and Work of Colin Wilson, and The Secret Teachers of the Western World. He writes for different journals in the US, UK, and Europe, where he also lectures, and his work has been translated into several languages. He is on the adjunct faculty in Transformative Studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies. In a former life he was a member of the pop group Blondie and in 2006 was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Born in New Jersey, since 1996 he has lived in London, UK. His website is garylachman.co.uk.

Time:  7 pm to 9. 30 pm. Talk runs 7.30 – 8 pm
