Shakespeare and the Stars

Lecture – Priscilla Costello

Join us as we dive into the the Elizabethan worldview of hermetic correspondences, to learn how the seven known planets were considered moving forces in the cosmos and in the human condition. Shakespeare wrote in terms of this cosmology, and tonight our speaker will bring it alive for us, showing his characters were ruled by Mars, Mercury, the Moon and so on, and how he expressed this in language and form of his plays.

The idea that the qualities of the planets was found equally in people personalities, and in the natural world around us, underpins magical practice to this day. For anyone interested in English magic, spellwork of today’s witches, and pagan worldview, this a crucially important subject. Equally, it’s a pertinent topic if you’re interested in Elizabethan or Enochian magic and the worldview of people like John Dee.  Join us for what promises to be a fun and educational evening.

Patricia Costello  was an English teacher for over 30years, with a deep love of Shakespeare; as well, she is a professional astrologer. Her unique combination of passions led to her writing Shakespeare and the Stars: The Hidden Astrological Keys to Understanding the World’s Greatest Playwright (published 2016).   She is a vicacious, learned speaker, and we’re delighted to host her while she is in the UK on a short visit from her native Canada.
