Eliphas Levi, the Socialist Magus

Eliphas Levi was the magisterial occultist and writer who launched the French occult revival of the late 19th century, bringing kabbalah and tarot into the Western occult renaissance. Levi made a huge impact on many, not least the Golden Dawn and Aleister Crowley.  Less known is the fact that Levi was deeply involved in socialist politics. Tonight's lecturer, Dr Julian Strube, brings this beloved magus to life, and shows new insights on him arising from his historical research for this doctoral thesis.
