Music, Creativity and the Occult - Conversation

In this  lively conversation, two chaos magicians who are also artists discuss creative endeavours as musicians and music producers and how they apply magic to the art they are involved in.  As they talk they bring in others whose work does that as well, including artist Marina Abramovic, graphic novelist Alan Moore, and musical act Heilung. Questions and propositions they will cover include....  What if you apply the timeless magical axioms to art? Magic in its earliest form is often referred to as ‘the Art’.  But somehow, somewhere along the line of the development of monotheistic religion and capitalism, artists in our modern times have accepted the belief art is merely entertainment. They’re not seen as transformative forces that can change a human being, a society. Art is only worth something if you can make money with it. Or is it? Can artists reclaim the magical power of art? We believe they can, by re-applying magical thinking and occult techniques to the process and the art itself.

Fieke is a musician, music producer and studio engineer, and has worked and played with artists you might know such as Eivør, Heilung, Omnia, Myrkur and Rhiannin. As a longtime practicing witch, she is both consciously and unconsciously applying her magic to her art and imbuing all people she works for, with a bit of it too. She has recently started the writing of a book on applying occult thinking & techniques to art.  Mark Vincent Smith has worked as a professional musician for 25 years and is also a clinical hypnotherapist with over 15 years' experience. He is a longstanding independent chaos magician. He works extensively with the techniques developed for working with subconscious blocks, motivation and core beliefs. Mark runs numerous courses and workshops through Treadwell's, and his sessions sell out quickly.
