About The Event
If the 20th century was the century of totalitarian regimes, the 19th was the era of nationalisms, and it is no surprise that the quest for a national identity would interest 19th and 20th century occultists. in this lecture, Dr. Christian Giudice will review the national ideals of occultists in France, England, Germany and Italy. You'll meet Saint-Yves d’Alveydre, Eliphas Levi, Aleister Crowley, MacGregor Mathers , W.B. Yeats, Lanz von Liebenfels, Guido von List, Giuseppe Garibaldi and Giuseppe Mazzini. Nationalism and occultism, two byproducts of modernity, are inextricably entwined, and the lecture explores the extent of this multi-valent and an oft-misunderstood connection. Chris Giudice completed his doctorate at University of Gothenburg and now lives in London.
'Occultism and Modernity' is a new lecture series at Treadwell's, a set of eight lectures on the theme, Autumn-Winter 2019-20.
