About The Event
Often linked in the mythical imagination, the tales of 'Snow White' and 'Sleeping Beauty' are both timeless stories of betrayal, enchantment and redemption.
In this online writing workshop, Bernadette Russell mines the dark heart of these famous tales and invites students to create their own kindred creative pieces. The group explores themes of birth, death, friendship and envy, as well as the power of words and the burden of beauty. Students also consider the stories' vivid, magical landscapes – in which curses can only be broken by love, brambles grow around hearts and homes, and the best course of action is to save yourself. Bernadette then gives retellings of the original stories, after which participants are invited to create their own tales using timed guided prompts.
