A Fearful Asymmetry: Austin Spare Evolution Two [Austin Osman Spare]
Stephen Pochin's scarce 2012 book is dedicated to Austin Osman Spare's work as a bookplate artist. The book reproduces many of them in lush colour and monochrome, along with thoughtful analysis. Spare's work as a bookplate illustrator reveals a great deal not only about his aesthetics but also about his network of patrons, and thus his wider social, and socio-economic milieu. As with all of Pochin's work the scholarship is careful and the art illustrations are generous and high-quality. A beautiful volume for the lover or Spare's art. Its full title is A Fearful Asymmetry, Austin Spare: Evolution Two The Peculiar Stylistic Innovations of An Edwardian Symbolist.
