The witchcrafty, moonlit, tender scent of benzoin (pronounced 'BENzoewinn') has long been used by magical people who love of loose incense. Think of magical circles, goddess visions, soft darkness.

Like all gums/resins, benzoin  is burned loose on charcoals, a pinch at a time (see video).  Also like most gums / resins, it is not attributed with a particular magical property. It can be burned on its own and smells wonderful. If it is used in a magical incense recipe, it provides a base for the herbs, oils and woods which are added to it.  NOTE: benzoin comes in the form of  small rock-like clumps, which you may need to hammer into gravel-sized pieces, or further, into a powder.
