This book by Wallace, who has written in the past on Spare, is a revised and much expanded republication of the long out of print books The Early and
The Late works of Austin Osman Spare. Wallace discusses Spare's use of occult texts and alchemical art, which is a hugely valuable contribution to understanding the occult side of the work. Wallace goes further, finding the influence of biblical texts, Shakespeare and the art of Blake and Hogarth. He propposes solutions to several iconographical puzzles as well. The volume also includes letters between him and Kenneth Grant, and a memoir by Frank Letchford.
