The bright, tangy scent of colophony  (pronounced 'cuh-LAW-funny') comes from the fact that it is the dried 'tears' of pine sap. Incense lovers appreciate the piney aroma, which evokes Northern evergreen forests, Yuletide fires and Scandinavian old gods.

Like all gums/resins, colophony  is burned loose on charcoals, a pinch at a time (see video).  Also like most gums / resins, it is not attributed with a particular magical property. It can be burned on its own and smells wonderful. If it is used in a magical incense recipe, it provides a base for the herbs, oils and woods which are added to it.

30 ml jar.
