Tarot Pierre Cheminade 1742
This 1742 Marseille deck was produced by Pierre Cheminade, a highly peripatetic card-maker, during the time he lived in the Piedmont region of Italy. The two of coins, the card on which makers traditionally put their name and date of issue, gives the town of production as 'Serravalle'. The colouring of this deck is highly saturated and high-contrast, with the reds being exceptionally bright and the greens being dark, almost black; the result is striking. The deck is enveloped in a folded decorated paper, a copy of the original wrapping, whose decorations of dolphins are a nod to Cheminade's birthplace in the Dauphine region.
This reproduction is a fine limited edition. Research and publication is by Yves Reynaud, with graphic design by Wilfried Houdouin.
