Freemason's Guide and Compendium - Bernard Jones
This classic history from Freemasonry was first published in 1950. It is detailed, exhaustive and is certainly one which every freemason should have on the bookcase. As its publisher wrote, it is 'written by an experienced Freemason with the interests of rank-and-file members of the ordinary lodge in mind' especially the young Craftsman. That said, it is a full-scale detailed book of the history and evolution of the many-armed movement, so it's a long read, or else a dip-in resource work.
