Leonora Carrington [Serpentine 1991 Catalogue]
This elusive catalogue's full title is Leonora Carrington: Paintings, Drawings and Sculptures 1940-1990. Edited by Andrea Schlieker, it shows in quality colour and excellent detail the works shown at this important exhibition, which was held before -- but definitely assisted -- the meteoric rise of the artist's profile. Carrington, who started her career in the Surrealist milieu, was deeply influenced by magic, the occult, Celtic mythology and the sense of the sacred in animals and nature. This book is an important addition to any collection of all lovers of artistic witches, of female surrealists, and of esoteric art.
