Magical Treatise of Solomon - Ioannis Marathakis
Singapore: Golden Hoard Press, 2011. Hardback, 376 pages. New. 1st edition. The Magical Treatise of Solomon, or Hygromanteia, is a late Byzantine grimoire purporting to contain Solomon's instructions on magical techniques to summon and control spirits. With complexity and variety, the text includes: methods for working with spirits' powers, astrology, charms, divination, and the magical herbalism. Though little known in the English-speaking world, it is hugely important because it is the source text of the Key of Solomon. Unlike the abridged Latin translation, this text is a more complete treatment of Solomonic magic: it's more complex, longer, deeper and richer. For the first time it has been translated from Greek into English. Translator Ioannis Marathakis is a native Greek scholar with an extensive knowledge of ceremonial magic. It's a fascinating read and an important work for the history or grimoires.
