The Perfect Medium: Photography and the Occult [Spiritualism]

This historic book on spirit photography in the 19th and early 20th century is the definitive work on the subject. Large format, with high-quality photographic reproductions throughout, it is a magnificent volume with hundreds of spirit photographs and documentary photographic images of spiritualism in action: mediums, apparitions, emissions of ectoplasm, mediums' cabinets and all the accoutrements and personages of the movement. It was issued in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in December 2005. The articles which make up the book's chapters are some of the best on the subject to this day.
