This rare collection comprises of 28 bound issues of Play Pictorial, a theatrical magazine covering the theatres of London's West End, from the Adelphi to the Wyndham. First published in 1902, the final edition of the magazine was published in 1939. This set features West End plays from the period 1902 to 1916. Each bound volume features six plays, forming a superb photographic record of a bygone age of theatre. Within each volume are reproductions of programmes, photographs of actors and actresses, musical scores, cast photographs, staged scenes and reviews, plus quotes from cast members giving their favourite lines. The volumes also feature advertisements in the distinctive styles of the period and articles on costume design and fashion. A wonderful acquisition for those interested in the history of London the stage. Each volume is bound in gilt-decorated cloth.
