Santa Fe: Bocaccio, 1975. Large Format, 22.5×16.5″ unbound Folios, plus accompanying booklet “The Symbolism of the Tarot” by P.D. Ouspensky. First Edition
P.D. Ouspensky explored many facets of the Tarot and its symbolism throughout his life. In 1911, he published a small book entitled “The Symbolism of the Tarot” providing his interpretations of the Major Arcana. In this rare edition, Taylor McCall has produced beautiful full-colour interpretations of Ouspensky’s descriptions of the Major Arcana.
Exquisitely rendered in the medium of silk-screen printing, each page was hand-pulled up to nine times by the seriographer Hugh Blackwell using hand-cut screens for each colour by the artist. The entire work is printed on a specially-commissioned order of hemp paper made at the paper mill of the Amatruda family in Italy. This edition is signed by the artist, and numbered 27 of the edition of 150. The work is contained within a heavy archival box with gold-inlaid lettering on the spine, and a facsimile edition of the 1913 English translation of Ouspensky’s original booklet “The Symbolism of the Tarot”.
There is some wear on the spine and lettering of the archival box but the internal quality of the pages is excellent. This is a rare collector’s item for anyone interested in Tarot symbolism or the esoteric work of P.D. Ouspensky.
