Young Urban Witches: Persephone and Demeter

This is a an evening for younger Londoners, art students and musicians from the DIY and warehouse scene. Treadwell’s is hosting these to introduce this community to the basics of a wild, free witchcraft. Please note it is for people under 30 who are curious about the witch’s path and magic grounded in an intersectional, non-binary outlook.This workshop is on the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone. Mother and daughter, loss, growing up, and becoming Queen of the Underworld – these are some of the themes.   No experience is expected – just a sincere interest and a friendly attitude:

  • All sexualities and gender identities welcome
  • Quiet folk as well as outgoing folk equally welcome
  • Workshop time is 6.30 pm to 8.45 pm. As late arrivals are disruptive, please arrive 6.20 pm
  • Maximum sixteen folk per workshop so everyone gets personal attention and we can connect well

The teacher is Rebecca Beattie: over a decade ago Rebecca undertook a rigorous apprenticeship in the witch’s Craft, and continues her practice to this day. A creative person herself, she’s a published author, jeweller, novelist and PhD student. Rebecca is wise and compassionate witch who enjoys sharing what she’s learnt over the years.

Time: Arrive 6.50 for  a prompt 7 pm  start. No latecomers. Ends 9  pm

In the witches’ wheel of the year, Imbolc is marked on the night of 31 Jan and the day of 1st Feb, and is a revival of the Celtic festival  honouring the goddess Brigit. It correlates to Candlemas, and has strong associations with the returning of light and creativity.  Tonight explores the way witches see this time of year, and how they mark it, and gives participants an chance to learn and experience an important element of pagan witchcraft, first-hand. The first hour is an illustrated talk with discussion. The second hour is given over to working hand-on piece of Imbolc seasonal folk magic. Everyone takes home what they have made; all supplies are included.

This is a an evening for younger Londoners who have a creative bent: art students, musicians,  folk from the DIY and warehouse scene, or indeed any walk of life.  In this workshop Treadwell’s  dives into learning and experiencing healing creative witchcraft. Please note it is for people under 30 who are curious about witchcraft that is alive, progressive and feminist.

It starts with a lively illustrated talk which opens up a key topic of witchcraft, tonight on animals as allies. Rebecca encourages contributions from everyone as we go along. Then, in the second half,  there is a practical part of the evening, with everyone learning hands-on magical skill, with all supplies provided. No experience is expected – just a sincere interest and a friendly attitude:

Mars, the force giving us the word ‘martial’, is warrior-like and passionate. Sometimes angry, sometimes sexy, this energy is used in witchcraft’s magic when needed. Mars’ force is found in the earth’s treasures in certain crystals, herbs —  and even the metals iron and steel. Come learn more in this engaging evening seminar, which offers both theory and practice. There is a lecture and then all partake in a piece of Mars magic, an experiential working. Everyone is welcome, no experience required.

Rebecca Beattie is has worked in Wicca and the magical arts for over a decade; she brings gentle wisdom and friendly guidance to all her teaching. Making Blended Incense for Magic

Since ancient times, loose blended incenses have been used for purification, for summoning spirits, and in natural magic. The are created and burnt ceremonially to create prosperity, success and love.  This afternoon intensive introduces the ancient art of  blended incenses,  teaching both the principles and the practices this ancient art.  The tutor will give you hands-on experience of working with the essential components: the resins, oils and botanical.  Scent-experiments and taste tests anchor the learning.  As the central activity, each person will blend a personal incense for a goal or spell, to use at home.  By the end, everyone will have the knowledge to make more blends at home. All ingredients and supplies are included in the fee. Max 16 in class.

Rebecca Beattie is a regular Treadwells tutor: she is a practising witch, writer and doctoral student. She brings over a decade of study and expertise in the traditional magical arts.

This is  an evening for younger Londoners, art students and musicians — indeed, younger folk from all walks of life who are drawn to magic and spirituality.  Every month this workshop covers a new set of knowledge and symbols, so as to share basics of a wild, free witchcraft. Experience two hours of witch’s path — inclusive, and grounded in a feminist outlook. Please note it is for people under 30.
