About The Event

Founded on principles of alchemical transformation, ink-making is an ancient magical art.

In this online workshop, green witch Hannah Sanders teaches students how to blend the elements of nature into magical liquids of intense colour. Ideal for use in spell records and personal grimoires, the group are taught to make several types of ink, for various purposes. Designed for students at all levels, expect to use found and foraged substances to craft beautiful, lasting and resonant magical inks.

Students will craft: Forge Lamp Black Ink, Oak Gall Ink, Walnut Black Ink, Mint Ink and Blackberry Ink.

Please bring water, sea salt, dried mint, blackberries, white vinegar and charcoal (burnt wood). Optional: gum arabic, cloves/clove oil, whole walnuts, oak galls.

The ‘Materials of Magic’ workshop series teaches participants how to build a personal magical apothecary. (They are designed to be drop-in workshops, so you don't need to attend all of them.) The events in the series are: Making Magical Salts (2 October), Making Magical Oils (16 October) and Making Magical Washes (23 October). Hannah Sanders has a doctorate in anthropology and is a longstanding practitioner of folk and herb magic. She was the last apprentice of writer and tarot reader Joyce Collin-Smith, and she is the granddaughter of a well-known Irish fortune teller. Professionally, she is a traditional folk singer.
