About The Event
Paganism never entirely disappeared from Europe – even after the rise of Christianity.
In this in-person event, scholars Robin Douglas and Francis Young join Christina on the Treadwell's sofa to discuss the persistence of pagan traditions across the centuries. From late antiquity to the twentieth century, there have been repeated attempts to revive pre-Christian beliefs and practices within an overwhelmingly Christian culture. These revived paganisms took many forms – rational and romantic, mystical and occult, scholarly and nationalistic – shedding new and unexpected light on Europe’s past. The evening marks the paperback launch of Robin and Francis's book Paganism Persisting, with a drinks reception and book signing to follow.
Robin Douglas is a scholar of religion and the history of ideas. His work is on the history of esoteric and pagan religious traditions from antiquity to the present day. His next book, The Pagan Revival (Equinox Publishing) is coming out…
