About The Event

Notions of gender polarity (binary) appear in many magical traditions worldwide. However, there are alternative models for understanding and more flexible interpretations.

In this two-part workshop, Julian Vayne examines the connections between gender, sexuality and magical practice as they appear in forms of tantra, western ceremonial magic and other esoteric styles. Specifically, he discusses which occult approaches reinforce gender stereotyping and which ones encourage diverse forms of sexual magic, probing the grey areas between.

He also provides several practical exercises for exploring these concepts magically (with a chance to try them live in the workshop). By the end of the two sessions, participants will have a broader understanding of the history and culture of sex magic, and several techniques to use at home in service of their identity, sexuality and magic.

Two session workshop – runs on 15 and 22 May.

Julian Vayne is an occultist with over 35 years’ experience. His work is informed by chaos magic, Wicca and eastern mysticism. A regular workshop leader and speaker, he is co-organiser of the psychedelic conference Breaking Convention, and sits on the academic board of The Journal of Psychedelic Studies. He is also the author of several works, including Getting Higher: The Manual of Psychadelic Ceremony. His books, essays and articles are published in both the academic and esoteric press.
