About The Event

Is it possible to use the signs of the environment to explore personal issues and help others? From the flight of birds to the shifting patterns of the land, witches and wise folk have been asked to read outer signs for inner meaning across many generations.

This class is focused on the history and folklore of seeing portents and omens in the outer environment. The most common traditional 'signs' are discussed, and participants learn ways to interpret them in a modern context. Whether it's determining the best day to carry out a particular action, or helping a friend to stay attentive for specific developments, engaging with the world in the cunning way can provide valuable information and aid decision-making during difficult times.

The 'Old Witch Ways' class series explores the key skills requested of witches and modern cunning folk within their communities today. (They are designed to be drop-in classes so you don't need to attend all of them.) The next events in the series are: Reading Dreams (29 April), Seeing the Future (19 June) and Getting Justice (2 July). If the event has passed and you'd like to catch up, please contact onlineshop@treadwells-london.com to access delayed viewing.

Hannah Sanders has a doctorate in anthropology and is a longstanding practitioner of folk and herb magic. She was the last apprentice of writer and tarot reader Joyce Collin-Smith, and she is the granddaughter of a well-known Irish fortune teller. Professionally, she is a traditional folk singer.
