Seidr: Old Norse Shamanic Practice - Four-week Course

Seidr is a set of Scandinavian shamanistic practices involving oracle and trance. In this course, long-term practitioners Katie Gerrard and Andre Henriques give participants a solid grounding in both the theory and the practice. It works on the Path of the Volva -- volvas being Norse ‘shamans’ who foresaw the threads of fate while in a heightened state, giving advice to members of their communities. The course covers

•  historical evidence, including the concepts around the Nine Worlds and Web of Wyrd.
•  learn the established techniques of seidr to attain altered states, with guided practice
• the structure of the famous High Seat rite
• engaging with the gods and ancestors 

This workshop, like all at Treadwell's, is fully inclusive and warmly welcomes people of all genders all ethnicities. No previous experience is required, but some experience in paganism, shamanism, meditation or mediumship would be helpful.  

All workshops are recorded and recordings are made available to students for the length of the course.

Katie Gerrard discovered seidr in the late 1990s through her connection to the Norse deities. She has been practising seidr for over twenty years, and is author of Seidr: The Gate is Open about her journey. She leads High Seat rites and workshops, including some for Treadwell’s. 

Andre Henriques has led ceremonies, lectures and workshops on the Northern Traditions of Europe for many years. He has participated in many different seidr ceremonies, and has also pursued academic research for his MA dissertation on practices and personal cosmologies of contemporary Norse-inspired Pagans.
