About The Event
Often called Kings of Incense, resins have long been honoured as precious and sacred: frankincense, benzoin, copal, myrrh and more. From ancient Egyptian funeral rites to Cyprus' Aphrodite temples, they were burnt so their powerful scents were released. In this class, Hannah Sanders shows how to prepare, blend and burn them, while she relates their histories and their place in magic. She demonstrates how to make loose blends and pastilles, then prepares the famous Egyptian incense, kyphi. Please bring: frankincense, myrrh, honey, raisins, red wine or red wine vinegar, self igniting charcoal disks, matches or lighter, heatproof dish Optional: copal, orris root, benzoin, cinnamon, ginger, juniper berries, saltpeter
Hannah Sanders is a traditional folk singer as well as being witch and magical herbalist. She was also the last apprentice of writer and tarot reader Joyce Collin-Smith, and is the granddaughter of a well-known Irish fortune teller.
