About The Event
Manon Hedenborg White joins Julian Vayne to discuss women in occult history, what roles they have played, and where the feminine has been used symbolically in the esoteric world -- sometimes to empower, and sometimes to undermine. The Thelemic  Babalon will be explored, too, with discussion of her hidden depths and meanings. An interactive Q&A is part of the evening, please join us for a fascinating and important conversation.
Manon Hedenborg White, PhD is Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at Malmö University (Sweden). Her doctoral dissertation was published as The Eloquent Blood: The Goddess Babalon and the Construction of Femininities in Western Esotericism (OUP, 2020). She researches Western esotericism, occultism, and New Religious Movements, with an emphasis on women’s roles and issues of gender, sexuality, and authority. Julian Vayne joined a Wiccan coven at the age of sixteen and since that time has explored occulture through the lens of shamanism, Thelema, chaos magic and tantra. Some of his most valued teachers have been the magical women he has encountered in this journey. Julian is fascinated by the ways in which notions of tradition, polarity, complexity and fluidity influence our understanding of gender and identity in magic.
