About The Event

What did John Dee and other magicians of that early modern era actually do, and how did they live?

Rachel Morris talks about the life of John Dee and other magicians of his period: the magic they did, how they paid their bills, how their wives put up with them, and what dangers they faced. It's a sofa chat with Christina Oakley Harrington, then Q&A before moving on to the drinks soirée with author book signing. Rachel's book The Years of the Wizard: the Strange History and Home Life of Renaissance Magicians (September) is a readable exploration of the charismatic magicians of the Tudor and Renaissance courts -- with a focus on the wives who kept the proverbial show on the road.

Rachel Morris is a former director of the museum-making company Metaphor and author of the book The Museum Makers: A Journey Backwards – from Old Boxes of Dark…
