About The Event

The Grimoire or black book is a treasury of magic and the culmination of a witch’s work.

In this class, participants learn about the history and folklore behind this most personal of tools, and how to begin making their own. Today often referred to as a book of shadows (BoS), the grimoire is typically handwritten and seen as a work of magic in and of itself. By the end of the class, everyone will have an understanding of how to create their own witch's record and use it – for both practical purposes and as a legacy of a magical life.

The 'Witch's Tools' class series is a deep dive into several tools that, across time and tradition, have proven central to the making of magic.

Hannah Sanders has a doctorate in anthropology and is a longstanding practitioner of folk and herb magic. She was the last apprentice of writer and tarot reader Joyce Collin-Smith, and she is the granddaughter of a well-known Irish fortune teller. Professionally, she is a traditional folk singer.
