About The Event

A night of provocative conversation on death, taboo and the occult.

In this in-person event, Professor Patricia MacCormack joins Christina on the Treadwell's sofa to explore death activism – a radical philosophy rooted in posthuman thought. This philosophy finds hope and grace within mortality, revealing trauma and grief as potent forms of expression. It also queers death by disrupting familiar narratives, noting how humans have long overlooked the mass deaths of non-human animals and ecosystems. Finally, Patricia discusses occult practices, revealing how chaos magic can bring depth and meaning to both living and dying. The evening concludes with a party and complimentary drinks on the shop floor, where Patricia will sign copies of her latest book, Death Activism: Queer Death Studies and the Posthuman.

Patricia MacCormack is Professor of Continental Philosophy in English and Media at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. She has published extensively on Deleuze, Guattari, Blanchot, Serres, Irigaray,…
