About The Event

Faerie folklore has long described a rich, otherworldly realm inhabited by ‘strange and secret peoples’, both enchanting and dangerous.


In this online workshop, Bernadette Russell invites participants to explore the faerie folk through storytelling and creative writing. The group examines how faeries have been imagined across time – from mischievous tricksters and vicious foes, to fallen angels, spirits of the dead, vanished races and nature deities. Attention then turns to the landscapes of faerie lore, from hollow hills and burial mounds to realms where time and morality shift. Drawing on both the oldest faerie tales and contemporary sightings (including those explored in the Modern Fairy Sightings podcast), participants are invited to create their own pieces using prompts, free writing and timed exercises, with the option to share work if desired.
