About The Event
Florence Farr (1860-1917) was a highly influential occultist in Victorian London. In an illustrated lecture, Antonia Bond explores Farr's approach to ancient Egyptian culture and magic, which reached beyond the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The audience is taken on a visual journey back in time to Victorian societies, avant-garde theatres, Egyptomania, Theosophical congresses... and finally to a dark alleyway where A.E. Waite was initiated into Farr's secret Egyptian order. Farr was a leading West End actress, a celebrity of her day with a secret life as an occultist, and within that, an even more secret life as the founder of an Egyptian magical group whose existence and rites (Egyptian Rituals of Florence Farr) were unknown until recently. Drinks soiree follows the talk. Our speaker Antonia Bond is an independent researcher living in London.Â
