About The Event
Exploring themes of isolation, loneliness and the downright weird, British folk horror seeks to show a very different side to the island.
In this in-person creative writing workshop, Bernadette Russell delves into the haunted landscape of folk horror. The group explores the genre's cinematic masterpieces, discussing Michael Reeves’ 'Witchfinder General', Piers Haggard’s 'Blood on Satan’s Claw' and Robin Hardy’s 'The Wicker Man'. Bernadette also considers examples of literary folk horror, such as the recent anthology 'The Gathering Dark', and some bewitching examples from other countries and cultures. Afterwards, there will be writing prompts to help students produce their own unsettling creations.
Ideal for anyone interested in the power of words, this workshop is equally suitable for experienced and new writers. Expect to be nurtured and encouraged through plenty of exercises, and leave the session with the beginnings of your own folk horror piece.
Bernadette Russell is co-director of arts organisation…
