About The Event

In this live online lecture, Peter Bebergal argues that both the magician and the inventor attempt to break open, and move beyond,  the ordinary existing ways of working with the forces that shape our lives. Magic is a kind of spiritual hacking, he suggests, a way to study the machine of the universe, then bend it towards a new purpose. Come along and see if you agree  - do you think it is? Q&A follows the lecture -- join in!

Peter Bebergal writes on speculative and fringe cultures. Books include Strange Frequencies: The Extraordinary Story of the Technological Quest for the Supernatural  and Season of the Witch: How the Occult Saved Rock and Roll. His articles have been published in Believer, the Times Literary Supplement, the New Yorker, Boing Boing, and the Paris Review.
