About The Event

Dive into a lively and engaging Zoom lecture on the five most popular curses in history, with a lecturer who is grounded in folk magic knowledge, and who has lots of practice doing and advising on practical magic in the present day. Rebecca Beattie takes us down the centuries to introduce: the Evil Eye, the Curse for Barrenness, love curses, and yes.... impotence curses. She looks in depth, too at the countermagic – the protections against – these dreaded and dastardly doings! It's an illustrated lecture with Q&A after, and we would love you to join us.

Dr Rebecca Beattie holds advanced degrees in creative writing and literature, with a special interest in esoteric themes in written texts. She is also a published author: her titles are Nature Mystics, Somewhere She is There, The Lychway, and many articles. Her MA in literature is from the University of London and her doctorate in Creative Writing is from the University of Middlesex, where she specialised in the works of the modernist mystic Mary Webb.
