About The Event
By popular demand, Amal Salem returns to Treadwell's to deliver her illustrated talk on Islamic magic, occultism and beliefs around the unseen.
In this talk, Amal offers a concise introduction to Islamic cosmology and the Golden Age traditions of astrology, mathematics and esoteric thought. She highlights notable texts and scholars before moving on to Islamic beliefs around angels, jinn and other invisible spiritual beings. The evening includes a discussion of magic and witchcraft in Islam, with reflections on whether 'appointment over jinn' makes someone a magical practitioner. Afterwards, we have a Q&A before heading upstairs for complimentary drinks.
Amal Salem is a researcher studying magic and occult sciences at a UK university, specialising in Islamic occultism. Of Arab background, her interests include jinn (jinnology), karamāt (spiritual gifts) and esoteric Islamic traditions. She runs the TikTok channel @magicandoccult and founded The Occultists, a space for dialogue among magical and spiritual communities.
