About The Event
London’s long history is threaded with tales of ritual, wonder and uncanny magic.
In this online creative writing workshop, Bernadette Russell invites participants to craft their own pieces using the city’s magical landscape as inspiration. The group hears about Roman curse amulets, medieval folk practitioners who spoke with fairies, the witch trials, the rise of stage magic through Houdini, the influence of Austin Osman Spare and the diverse magical practices found in London today. These stories become prompts for guided exercises and timed writing, offering space to explore the city’s imaginative life in personal creative pieces.
Ideal for anyone interested in folklore, place-magic and the power of words, this workshop welcomes both seasoned writers and absolute beginners. By the end, everyone will have new inspiration and practical experience crafting their own weird and wonderful London stories.
Bernadette Russell is a published author and professional storyteller. She is storyteller-in-residence at Lesnes Abbey…
