About The Event
Far from being confined to rural areas, accusations of witchcraft were once rife in the capital.
In this vibrant walking tour, Maria Beadell explores the lives of the women persecuted as witches in London. Centred on the richly historic area in and around St. Paul's Cathedral, the group weaves through the backstreets and even visits a pagan temple. Expect to hear stories of real women, from medieval healers and Elizabethan social climbers, to pagan priestesses and wartime mediums. Featuring street theatre and character acting with a comedic twist, this tour explores a dark chapter in London's history from the perspective of the women who lived through it.
Meet at 19:50 outside Farringdon train station main exit, Cowcross Street. The tour leaves at 20:00 precisely. Maria will be wearing a blue gown. Tour duration: between 1.5 – 2 hours, ending at St Paul's Cathedral. Photos may be taken, but recording of the tour is not allowed.
Maria Beadell is an independent writer, performer, actor and founder of Herstorical Tours. She is fascinated by women's history in the capital.
