Doomed and romantic, Mary Queen of Scots is a highly enigmatic figure, synonymous with tragedy even today. Followed by rumours of witchcraft, sorcery and black magic, was she really the devout Catholic she portrayed herself to be?


In this in-person lecture at Treadwell's, Cara Hamilton speaks about the possible occult life of the famous queen. She addresses rumours that Mary consulted with astrologers and spellcasters in the French and Scottish courts, and participated in the Black Mass. Mary is often portrayed through the eyes of the men in her life: those who loved her, hated her or were politically plotting against her. This talk puts aside the salacious whispers and political smearing to tell a delightfully surprising tale.
