About The Event
What does it mean to be a witch in the twenty-first century?
In this online class, Rebecca Beattie explores how ideas of witchcraft have evolved in recent decades, from pre-1951 traditions to the resurgence of interest in magic after the pandemic. The class considers the modern witch as healer, activist, storyteller and change-maker – unpacking the politics, ethics and responsibilities of magical identity. It also examines how fear, stigma and ideas of liberation continue to shape attitudes towards witchcraft today. An in-depth Q&A session follows, with plenty of space for discussion and questions.
Rebecca Beattie has spent over two decades studying and practicing witchcraft. A Wiccan priestess of 20 years, she has a rich understanding of the history and traditions underpinning pagan practice. She also has a doctorate in Creative Writing and is a published author. Her books include Planetary Magic, Wheel of the Year and The Way Through the Woods.
