About The Event
Hidden beneath the city’s streets, there's a strange and alluring history…
In her acclaimed tour, the much-loved Caroline Wise leads a 3-hour walking journey through the capital’s forgotten past. This is the story of an alternative, mystical London – one that can still be glimpsed today, nestled between modern buildings. Expect to hear tales of gods, goddesses, holy wells, foundation legends and much more. By the end, the group will understand some of the richest, most evocative mythology underpinning the city (and have seen plenty of sites to boot). Recommended for all with an enthusiasm for London.
Meet outside St Clement Danes Church, Strand, WC2R 1DH, at 11:20. Caroline will be wearing a blue scarf and holding a sign with 'Treadwells Mythic London Walk'. The tour leaves at 11:30 precisely and ends at 2.30pm outside the Tower of London (the group does not go into the Tower).
Tour duration: 3 hours (with one bathroom stop). However, there are several points where you will be able to sit and listen to the stories. Please bring plenty of water, a pen and paper (if you wish), and be prepared for the day to go ahead, rain or shine. There will be max. 12 people to ensure an intimate, small-group experience. No recording of the tour is permitted.
Caroline Wise is a longstanding esotericist and a renowned expert on the mythology of London. The former owner of the Atlantis Bookshop, she has contributed to a huge number of published works, including Finding Elen: the Quest for Elen of the Ways and The Secret Lore of London (co-edited with John Matthews). She lectures all over the world on goddesses, the women pioneers of the occult revival and the capital’s mythic history.
