About The Event

In the 20th century occult movements from Thelema to Wicca to chaos magic flourished and found new ways of expressing their concepts and aesthetics. In this lecture, Dr. Christian Giudice will review the ways in which the ideas of the esoteric were translated onto the celluloid, then projected onto the silver screen. The movies, like occult rites, are mind-expanding events, which take place in darkened rooms by night, opening gateways to other dimensions. The lecture will especially focus on the post-war American avant-garde cinema of iconic figures such as Kenneth Anger, Maya Deren, Curtis Harrington, and Harry Smith.

This is the third lecture in 'Occultism and Modernity,' series given by Dr Chris Giudice. Chris received his doctorate in Western Esotericism at University of Gothenburg and now lives in London. He recently founded Kamuret Press (www.kamuret.com)
