About The Event
The song for conjuring in the summer runs 'surely we sing of no little thing, of Oak and Ash and Thorn'. Kipling's words have become iconic of these sacred magical trees and Hannah Sanders teaches their magics: the oak, sovereign of the woods; the hawthorn, May awakener; the ash, giver of blessing. She leads the class with folkloric knowledge and experiential guidance, so participants can go further on their own afterward. Filmed from her witches kitchen, she will show the making of a specific talisman for this work, and then will make tree staves, showng how to use them for divination.
Tutor: Hannah Sanders is a longstanding practitioner of folk and herb magic, was the last apprentice of writer and tarot reader Joyce Collin-Smith, and is the granddaughter of a well-known Irish fortune teller. She holds a doctorate in anthropology and has taught at universities. Professionally, she is an acclaimed traditional folk singer.
