About The Event
This guided walk visits occultists' addresses and ritual sites around Bloomsbury's leafy squares: the area was home, work and school to occult figures through the 18th - 20th centuries: Wiccan Gerald Gardner, witch theorist Margaret Murray, Theosophist Madame Blavatsky, classicist-pagan scholar Jane Ellen Harrison, occultist WB Yeats, and Bad Boy of magic, Aleister Crowley -- and more, including occult novelist Dion Fortune. This is a leisurely walk through the quiet neighbourhood squares to meet the great characters of occult London. The guide relates the information, leavened with lively anecdotes and some tragic tales. The tour concludes back at Treadwells, with a complimentary glass of fizz and afternoon cake. All attendees receive a souvenir programme. Tour guide Esther Hills is a long term lover of pagan and esoteric history, and is the shop manager at Treadwell's.
Meeting point: Treadwell's Bookshop . Also concludes at Treadwell's.
Time: Arrive 12.50 for 1 pm start. Ends approx 3.30 pm back at Treadwells where all are invited to stay for fizz and cake.
