About The Event
In 1960, Robert Graves, author of The White Goddess, was contacted by the high priest of a Hertfordshire coven of witches. For the next eleven years they wrote to each other about witchcraft, ritual, hallucinogenic plants, and the Goddess. In these previously unexplored letters we find Graves telling of his meetings with Gerald Gardner, his disapproval of the American moon landings, and his ideas about the relationship between the White Goddess and the Black Goddess whom he was beginning to discover. And we watch from the sidelines as Idries Shah draws Graves into one of the greatest literary frauds of the twentieth century. Grevel Lindop's talk, based on a sensational archive of unpublished letters, will fascinate everyone interested in Goddess-worship, poetry, or the history of Wicca. Grevel Lindop is a poet, essayist, biographer and researcher; he edited the highly-regarded new edition of The White Goddess.  A compelling speaker, he returns to Treadwell's at our invitation.
