About The Event
After Christianity became dominant in Europe, paganism largely disappeared until its 20th century revival. But never completely.
In this illustrated lecture at Treadwell's, Robin Douglas introduces three important historical figures (yet to be revealed) who surprisingly espoused pagan views during an era known for Christian hegemony. All of them were prominent public figures and gifted intellectuals, with well-articulated philosophical, political and religious ideas running counter to their contemporaries. Expect a lively, engaging and informative dive into a secret history of attempted pagan revivals. A drinks party on the shopfloor follows, with complimentary wine and soft drinks.
Robin Douglas is a scholar of religion and the history of ideas. His work is on the history of esoteric and pagan religious traditions from antiquity to the present day. Along with Francis Young, he is the author of Paganism Persisting (University of Exeter Press, 2024), which explores European paganism’s long afterlife.
