Winter & Creative Writing – Workshop

Celebrated in many cultures, the Winter Solstice is associated with themes of rebirth and the victory of light over darkness.

In this online workshop, Bernadette Russell invites students to create their own wintry tales of renewal and transformation. The group begins by considering the various midwinter festivals held across the world, from Yule (in European pagan traditions) to the Dongzhi Festival (in China). Students then delve into some its most evocative folklore, traditions and ritual practices, exploring the universal themes of regeneration and return. Afterwards, everyone is invited to create their own creative pieces using prompts, free writing and timed exercises (with a chance to share work, if desired).
