About The Event
Frightening gods and spirits have long stirred winter folktales – figures who usher in the season with trials of cold and darkness.
In this in-person workshop, Bernadette Russell invites participants to explore these beings through storytelling and creative writing. The group meets the 'Queens of Winter' – the Cailleach of Gaelic lore, Ishtar in her underworld descent and Hekate at the threshold. They then turn to the season’s male spirits such as Jökul Frosti or Jack Frost, and the Slavic Morozko. Afterwards, participants create their own pieces using prompts, free writing and timed exercises, with a chance to share work if desired.
Ideal for anyone interested in myth, folk horror and the power of words, this workshop is equally suitable for seasoned and new writers. By the end, everyone will have fresh inspiration and practical experience crafting their own tales of winter's otherworldly figures.
Bernadette Russell is a published author…
