About The Event

Florence Cook isn't as famous in Victorian Spiritualism the Fox Sisters, but in London in the early 1880s she was regarded as the most powerful physical medium of her era. 'The Angel of Hackney', Arthur Conan Doyle called her. In this riveting illustrated lecture, Paul Bell takes us back to the streets of 1880s London, when seances and the spirit cabinets were all the rage, and where patriarchal society could be disrupted and erotically disturned. He unpacks the story, and the issues raised, in one of London's most dramatic spiritualism cases.

Paul Bell has long been involved in the world of the supernatural and the occult, with a special interest in the Victorian era. Under the stage name 'Paul Voodini' he has recreated the experience of the Victorian séance in a theatrical environment, ad has led 'ghost hunts' in some of England's most haunted locations. After his successful 2021 Treadwell's zoom lecture, he returns to join the live lecture series in person.
