About The Event
In early modern Britain, accusations of witchcraft often grew out of everyday tensions – poverty, grief and the pressures of community life.
In this in-person event, Professor Marion Gibson joins Christina on the Treadwell’s sofa to discuss the lives of those caught up in Britain's 16th–17th century witch hunts. Drawing on her recent research, Gibson explores what made someone vulnerable to being labelled a witch. Who were the accusers, and what did the accused believe was happening to them? A Q&A follows, along with a complimentary drinks soirée. The event celebrates the launch of Gibson’s new book Witchland, with copies available for purchase and signing.
