About The Event

Historian Dr John Callow talks with Christina Oakley Harrington about Scottish witchcraft. The famous 1662 case of Isobel Gowdie offers a way into the Scottish supernatural, folk practices, fairy belief -- and even into the machinations of local politics. Christina, a researcher of modern witchcraft, offers comparisons with modern practices and Wiccan perspectives. Two great friends engage and banter in what promises to be a hugely informative conversation. Join us to listen and to participate in the audience Q&A.

Dr John Callow has written widely on Early Modern witchcraft, politics, modern Wicca, pagan pop culture, and cultural history.. He has appeared on the BBC’s The One Show to discuss the roots of Hallowe’en; on the BBC Radio 4 documentary, It Must be Witchcraft;  Find My Past's The Great Fire of London; and the Discovery Channel's four-part series, The Salem Witches.  Christina Oakley Harrington is a former academic historian, founder of Treadwell's and researcher of early Wiccan practice. She has appeared on national television and numerous documenteries; recently authored the Treadwell's Book of Plant Magic.
